As I have been sorting through our Reid to North Kannapolis project information that I sent to you earlier, I have come across an issue that I believe.may explain our confusion as to a change in the delineation mapping. I am.attaching a figure which depicts two locations - on Figure 6E, we stood beside the stream channel and discussed mitigation for some time (this was the first location we visited after meeting on the morning of our field visit). I believe that we discussed the idea that the two stream channels (Streams SH and SI) draining the wetland area WJ were anabranches of a braided system. If this is the case, it is our understanding that mitigation is generally .required for the length of one channel of such a system. Are impacts also calculated by using a single branch of a system as such? At the time of our field visit, we knew the lengths of impacts, yet we all left feeling that a NWP 14 would fit the bill. Inclusion of both of these channels at the current design level potentially raises our impacts above 300 linear feet for this crossing and into Individual Permit territory. Please let me know when you might have the opportunity to discuss this issue. https:Hmai l.nc. gov /owa/ ?ae= Item &t= IPM.Note &i d= RgAAANDMS zLcd9W 2TJM4%2bm... 6/6/2011 RE: Reid to North Kannapolis impact question (UNCLASSIFIED) Page 2 of 2 Sincerely, Scott Scott G.
