The cause of the overflow was grease. Crews were dispatched, and the overflow was stopped within 30 minutes. Manholes and sewer lines in the area were flushed, and affected area was cleaned. Fecal coliform samples were also taken in the affected stream. Sampling continued until acceptable levels were achieved. The City of Wilson distributes FOG materials to residents bi annually to educate the public on what should not be introduced into the sewer system. Crews periodically monitor this area for other issues and perform maintenance as needed. An estimated 300 gallons reached surface waters. Incident # 202300915- In addition, on Monday June 12,2023 at approximately 10:00 AM, crews were dispatched to a sanitary sewer overflow at 6310 Ward Blvd, Wilson NC. The cause of the overflow was grease. Within 30 minutes, the overflow was stopped by using a portable flusher. Nearby catch basins that were affected were flushed and vacuumed and affected area was cleaned. Top soil and lime were also applied to the area. Design for upgrade and replacement of sewer infrastructure in this area is currently being designed. An estimated 50 gallons overflowed and reached surface waters.
