Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this application: The project vicinity consists of forested communities, floodplain swamps, agricultural fields, and minor residential development. 4b. Explain the purpose of the proposed project: The purpose of this project is to replace structurally deficient bridges. The timber components are past their life expectancy and can't be maintained by maintenance activities. 4i. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used: * The proposed bridges will be 21-inch cored slab bridges approximately 55-feet long, providing a minimum 30-foot 10-inch clear roadway width. NC Natural Heritage Program database; USFWS-IPaC query, biological surveys for protected species identified for the project study area, which include American alligator, wood stork, red -cockaded woodpecker, and Michaux's sumac. The American alligator does not require surveys. Habitat for the red -cockaded woodpecker does not exist in the study area. Habitat for the wood stork and Michaux's Sumac exists, but no specimens were observed in a survey conducted on June 23, 2022. 6. Essential Fish Habitat (Corps Requirement) 6a.
