Dear Ms. Lewis:
In reference to your letter dated 10/4/96, I am providing you with the following:
1) The calculations of SA/DA ratio, volume, and orifice sizing were faxed to you on October 10, 1996.
2) The results of the Chlorides test are attached to this letter. A sample was taken 0.5 miles east of the
site on Golden Road. The results were 73.6 mg/l.
3) The dimensions of the permanent pool, parking lot, and sidewalk width are shown on the enclosed
Sheet C-2 (2 copies), dated 9/3/96, latest revision 10/16/96.
4) The total impervious area which I calculated, 39,797 sf, includes future paving area. The pond was

Dear Mr. Hargrove:
The Wilmington Regional Office received a Stormwater Management Permit Application for
American Auto and Finance on September 20, 1996. A preliminary review of that information has
determined that the application is not complete. The following information is needed to continue the
stormwater review:
1. Calculations of SA/DA ratio, volume, and orifice sizing were not provided
2. The results of a chlorides test must be submitted before a detention pond can be permitted.
After 3 days without rain, take a water sample at a point in the receiving waters that is
outside an imaginary 1/2 mile arc from the proposed discharge point.
3. Add the dimensions of the permanent pool. parking lot, and sidewalk width.
4. Your total impervious area seems to be much larger than what I calculate, 39,797 vs.
27,200. Are you requesting future impervious area?

- original completed stormwater application for the referenced project
- $385.00 application fee
- three (3) copy of the Wet Pond Calculations
- three (3) copy of the Erosion Control Calculations
- one (1) copy of the Stormwater Operation and Maintenance Plan
- three (3) copy of the Erosion Control Plan
- three (3) copies of sheets C-1 (Erosion Control Measures) and C-2 (Site Plan) dated 9/03/96
Stormwater on this project will be controlled using a stormwater detention pond. Please note that sheet C-2
shows the drainage area delineated for the project. The stormwater detention pond has been sized as if the entire
site was developed. The grassed area behind the building and next to the pond was assumed to be impervious
since cars will be parked there at times. The maximum area which could be paved was determined and 8% was
subtracted to account for landscaping. The break down of numbers can be found on sheet 1 of 5 of the
calculations.
We request NCDEM certification of compliance of this project with stormwater regulations. Thank you for your
consideration of this request. If you need additional information please call.
Very truly yours,
DAWSON ENGINEERING
Mark N. Hargrove, P.E.
Encl.: As noted above.
