Intake Canal Stabilization Project, Corps ID SAW 2023-01140
July 18, 2023
1) For the stream bank stabilization backfill areas, what material besides rip -rap will be used to
create the 3:1 slopes. Is this soil fill material? What is the source of this material (borrow area,
etc.).
2) Please provide an Alternative Analysis for this project. Discuss alternatives considered for the
stream stabilization project. Your current project proposal can be one of the alternatives. You
should also discuss the "No Build" alternative, i.e., consequences if no work for this project
occurs. Besides the No Build and your proposal, describe at least two other alternatives.
Also, if your proposal (i.e. your Preferred Alternative) is what you believe is the "Least
Environmentally Damaging Practicable Alternative (LEDPA)", you need to state so or describe
which alternative is the LEDPA.
3) A "Disposal Area" within the laydown yard is shown on drawing "Figure 5". Will material
from the project site be placed in this area, either temporarily or permanently?
4) Please provide, in at least two of the plan view areas, an analysis of the wetlands in these
areas using the "North Carolina Wetland Assessment Method (NCWAM)". Also, please
evaluate or re-evaluate your proposed wetland mitigation ratio (currently 0.5:1) using these
analyses.
Thanks,
G reg
