Project Narrative For Sewer Permitting Subject: COMPASS POINTE Addition of Phase 22 Brunswick County, North Carolina Prepared for: Renaissance Lifestyle LLC PO Box 4548 Wilmington, NC 28406 May 26, 2023 Prepared by: Cape Fear Engineering, Inc. 151 Poole Road, Suite 100 Belville, NC 28451 (910)383-1044 NC License C-1621 SEWER DESIGN NARRATIVE GENERAL: Compass Pointe is located in Brunswick County, North Carolina. The project site is just north of Highway 74-76 and approximately one mile west from the intersection of Highway 74-76 and Enterprise Drive. The proposed Phase 22 will include the development of 86 multi -family residential units. Wastewater flows from the proposed Phase 22 will be conveyed through a new low pressure sewer system extension that will connect to the existing 6" forcemain along Safflower Way and the 2" forcemain on West Timber Crest Drive within existing Phase 20 of the subdivion. The proposed low pressure sewer system for Phase 22 will consist of approximately 3,283 LF of 3-inch forcemain, 2,952 LF of 2-inch forcemain, and 35 LF of 1.5-inch forcemain. No future connections are planned for the Phase 22 low pressure sewer system. From the existing low pressure sewer system, wastewater flows will discharge to the previously permitted Pump Station #1 (WQ0033044). Ultimately wastewater flows will discharge at the Northeast Brunswick WWTF (NC0086819). Flow allocation for the Compass Pointe Subdivision, each phase, is being tracked under the downstream permit WQ00330044. A modification to this permit has been concurrently submitted to provide 18,060 GPD allocated for the 86 lots within Phase 22. The remainder of the subdivision has an allocation of 450,400 GPD, bringing the total to 468,460 GPD as reflected on the FTSE provided with this submittal. Attached is a breakdown of flow allocation for each phase within the subdivision to be reflected in the modification to WQ00330044. It should be noted that during the permitting and construction of Phase 20, a 6" forcemain was installed anticipating additional future development beyond the 86 lots within Phase 22. Modeling of the Phase 22 extension indicates that approximately 2,715 linear feet of 6" forcemain within existing Phase 20 may not meet scour velocity due to the decrease in obtainable density. This 6" forcemain runs along Safflower Way from the intersection with West Timber Crest to the intersection of Timber Hills Drive. This portion of 6" forcemain shall be considered high priority. WASTEWATER PROJECTION: For this phase of the sanitary sewer, the anticipated flow will be 18,060 GPD. This flow has been calculated using the proposed 86 units in this section with an average daily flow of 210 GPD. SYSTEM DESIGN: Low Pressure System: The low pressure sewer system has been designed such that at build -out a scour velocity of 2 fps is achieved in all forcemain pipes and the total dynamic head in each zone does not exceed maximum head requirements of the individual grinder pumps. Additionally, the system has been designed such that all previously permitted low pressure units are not adversely affected by the proposed additional units and that there is sufficient capacity for future areas of planned development. TREATMENT FACILITY: A FTSE Form has been provided for the flow required for Phase 22. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE: Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer (H2GO) will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system. Appendix A Summary of Design Assumptions The proposed low pressure sewer system has been designed to use Zoeller Shark 810 grinder pumps; however, all design calculations were performed using E-one's Design Assistant software. E-one software was used because Zoeller does not have a comparable comprehensive design software package. The fundamental difference between an E-one low pressure system and a Zoeller low pressure sewer system is the type of pump used. The Zoeller pump selected for the proposed low pressure sewer system is very similar to the E-one modeling software. Both the Zoeller and the E-one pumps are progressing cavity pumps that have very similar performance curves. (See Appendix B for E-one and Zoeller Performance Curves.) It was assumed that since the fundamental difference between the Zoeller and E-one low pressure sewer systems is the type of pump used and since both systems employ pumps with similar pump performance curves, the E-one modeling software would give an adequate representation of the proposed low pressure system's performance.
