Wasteload Allocation Summary
(approach taken, correspondence with region, EPA, etc.)
Facility is expanding flow (0.015 to 0.025 MGD) and relocating outfall from a UT to Hogans
Creek to the mainsteam of the creek. A to C on file 7/9179 for original plant. Facility should be
given a choice between an NH3-N limit of 29 mg/l summer and monitoring in winter or a chronic
toxicity test.

Dear Mr. Reynolds
George T. Everett, Ph.D.
Director
As I mentioned in our telephone conversation of Friday October 19, 1991, the technical support branch is
currently involved in renewal of NPDES permit number NC0044750, for Britthaven of Madison. A request
for a modification of the permit (relocation of discharge and increase in waste flow) was also received.
An allocation for oxygen -consuming waste at the new waste flow and location must be calculated,
however, the branch has no current flow data for the new location on Hogans Creek. An estimate of flow
has been made and it appears the current limits will be sufficient to protect water quality in that area
with the possible exception of NH3-N and residual chlorine. This, of course, is a preliminary finding
based on an estimate of flow. Currently, a flow request has been submitted to the U.S. Alogical Survey
and the wasteload allocaiton will be completed upon receipt of that flow data.
Thank you for telephone call and should you need any further information please feel free to call me at
919-733-5083 ext. 510.
Sincerely,
Norman J. Bedwell
