Tree Removal:
• "Zone 1 shall consist of vegetated area that is undisturbed. Zone 1 begins at full pond level (760
feet for Lake Norman) and extends landward a distance of 30 feet, measured horizontally on a line
perpendicular to the lake."
"Zone 2 shall consist of a stable, vegetated area that is undisturbed. Grading and revegetating
Zone 2 is allowed provided that the health of the vegetation in Zone 1 is not compromised. Zone 2
begins at the outer edge of Zone 1 (30' buffer) and extends landward 20 feet as measured horizontally
on a line perpendicular to the surface water."
"The combined width of Zone 1(30') and Zone 2 (20') shall be 50 feet on all sides of the surface
water along Lake Norman."
"Therefore, no disturbance (including the removal of trees) is permitted in Zone 1 (30' buffer
zone) without prior written approval by Division of Water Resources (DWR). No trees greater than 3"
caliper may be cut/removed within the 30' buffer without prior written approval by DWR. Zone 2 (50'
buffer) can be graded and revegetated without prior written approval from DWR.
