Site Preparation: As of March 16, 2023, the proposed wastewater system was constructed, and the following observations were noted: • Approximately 14"-16" of the natural soil was removed. This appears to be the A horizon that was noted to be the most restrictive layer from the initial testing. • A coarse grain sand consistent with C33 or 2S sand was incorporated with the natural soil to a depth of approximately 8 inches across the proposed application area. • The coarse grain sand fill material appears to have been built up approximately 24" above the natural site grade. • The static water table was noted to be 26"-28" below the sand fill surface at the time of the site -specific testing. Conductivity Testing (refer to Figure 1, Appendix A) The Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity (Ksat) of the coarse grain fill material and the incorporation zone was performed to verify the loading rates are substantially higher than the previous testing. The tested depths were noted to be in saturated and unsaturated conditions. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the unsaturated coarse grain sand fill was measured with a compact constant head permeameter (CCHP) from Ksat, INC. Tests and result calculations were conducted in accordance with the User Manual from Ksat, INC. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the coarse grain sand fill could not be measured due to the extreme porosity of the material. The CCHP could not refill quicker than the permeability of the fill material. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the fill material is assumed to be greater than 20 inches per hour. Hampstead, NG 25443, 910.270.2919, Fax 910.270.2955 The saturated hydraulic conductivity tests for the saturated fill/natural soil incorporation zone were conducted using the slug test method. Slug tests were performed utilizing a monitoring well that was constructed utilizing a two-inch PVC screen encased in a four -inch boring. The screen was encased in a gravel pack. The tested layer was isolated using a bentonite grout above the gravel packed screen. Test data was input into AquiferTest version 3.5 from Waterloo Hydrogeologic, INC. The results were analyzed utilizing the Bouwer and Rice method. A test specific data sheet was prepared for each location and is provided in Appendix A. The saturated hydraulic conductivity within the incorporated zone was noted to range between 13.4 inches per hour and 17.9 inches per hour with a geometric mean of 15.8 inches per hour. Results are summarized in Table 1 below. It appears that the wastewater will transfer into the natural soil. Furthermore, it appears that the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the coarse grain sand fill is greater than the incorporated zone. It appears that the wastewater should disperse away from the drip tubing and transfer into the incorporation zone. Standard Soil Fertility Sample Soil samples were collected from the coarse grain sand fill application area. Composite samples were composed of 10-12 soil cores taken at a depth of 4 inches from the fill surface at random locations within each proposed disposal area. The results of the tj Standard Soil Fertility Analysis have not been returned at the time of this report, however; the results will be forwarded when available. Description The Family Dollar WWTF is designed to serve the wastewater treatment and disposal needs for the Family Dollar convenient store in Currie, NC. The design capacity of the WWTF is 260 GPD The plant is designed to provide effluent quality suitable for drip irrigation disposal in accordance with the NCDEQ Non -Discharge Wastewater Irrigation Systems permit. The proposed WWTF includes a 1,000-gallon precast septic tank with effluent filter, 1,300 gallon recirculation tank with two parallel AX20 textile filter treatment systems, ultraviolet disinfection, 1,500 gallon precast storage tank with effluent pump station, and drip irrigation disposal. General Operational Requirements The Family Dollar WWTF will maintain certified wastewater treatment system operators to operate, monitor, and maintain the treatment process and equipment. General operational responsibilities include the following: 1. Comply with NCDEQ rules and regulations as defined in the permit. 2. Monitor, operate, and maintain the treatment facilities. 3. Maintain required records of treatment operations, maintenance, residuals disposal, chemical usage, etc. 4. Perform required compliance testing in accordance with permit requirements. 5. Submit monitoring and other reports as required by NCDEQ. 6. Implement operational procedures for dealing with emergency situations. 7. Comply with safety rules and regulations. 8. Response to Upsets including control, containments and remediation- Audible and Visual alarms shall be provided for the WWTF. 9. Report any line breaks or spills to the proper authorities. Provide preventive maintenance of equipment as required per manufacturer's instructions including valves and valve actuators, pumps and motors, chemical feed systems, instrumentation and control, samplers, etc. 2. Prepare a preventive maintenance schedule, keep maintenance records updated. 3. Maintain necessary tools and supplies on -site for proper maintenance work. 4. Perform field sampling, testing, and process control activities required to optimize the performance of the facility. 5. Repair any broken equipment or piping leaks as required. 6. Keep spare parts, piping repair equipment, etc. in inventory for emergency use and repairs. 7. Provide for general housekeeping and grounds maintenance. Residuals Management Plan 1. Residuals will be stored within the tankage of the system and will be disposed of as needed to maintain operational needs and requirements but shall be at a minimum removed once every three years. 2. Residuals will be disposed of via contract with licensed sludge hauler Lewis Farms.
