HomeMy WebLinkAboutJuly 7 report - post cleanupMr. Dave Wanucha, We had sediment losses at several sites at three highway projects due to the recent rain event (June 19 through 23). The Highway 24/27 project in Albemarle recorded 4.4 inches of rainfall which resulted in sediment losses at four locations (pictures and volumes attached). The project inspector had work crews clean the areas up already and submitted before and after pictures. The NC 3 project in Kannapolis recorded 3.84 inches of rainfall which resulted in a sediment loss at one location (pictures attached). Runoff from roadway at Y15 overwhelmed sandbags diverting runoff from roadway to curb inlets. Runoff at Permit Site 7S-2 eroded out material behind the silt fence and washed through SSCF outlet. Appears majority of material has been deposited on stream bank and what material made it to the JS is gone. Once the sediment has been recovered, I will forward more pictures showing our cleanup efforts and will provide a total number of buckets recovered. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions about this loss or if you would like to schedule an onsite inspection. Please see the attached pictures of permit site 7S-2. The Tory Path Road project in Waxhaw recorded 3.35 inches of rainfall which resulted in sediment losses at three locations (pictures attached). Permit site 1 has less than % inch of sediment in the stream channel for less than 100 linear feet. Permit site 2 has between % to 1 inch of sediment deposited in approximately 3,000 square feet of wetland but the area is completely covered with herbaceous vegetation. Permit site 3 has 1 % to 4 inches of sediment in a stream channel for approximately 200 linear feet. Respectfully submitted, NC Permit Site 01 before 6/20/23 7. Albemarle. Stanly Countv. More rain was recorded on June 24; therefore, more measurement and pictures will be submitted. Work crews will be using shovels and buckets to remove sediment from Sites 2 and 3. Channel cleanup effort was checked on June 29, 2023. It was determined more sediment needed to be removed. Site 2, after cleanup Site 2, after cleanup Site 1, Less than 0.25 inch of sediment in stream channel. No remedial actions recommended. The contractor recovered a total of 327 - 5 gallon buckets of silt from site 2, site 3, and two other non -jurisdictional sites where sediment exited the project limits. The contractor is increasing the size berms, adding additional check dams, and increasing size of inlet protection measures to try to prevent losses in the future.
