Hi Randy,
Thank you for the update and additional information concerning the project at 15800 Henry Lane,
Huntersville. From a review of the attachments, it is my understanding that this is a replacement/repair of the
existing boardwalk. New pathways and boardwalks are allowed within the buffer per the following
guidelines:
Pathway Guidelines for Water Supply Watershed Buffers
Pedestrian pathways are allowed through the buffer to provide access to the water or to a pier, provided they
are pre -approved by Charlotte -Mecklenburg Storm Water Services. Pathways should meander through the
buffer avoiding trees and minimizing environmental impact. Openings for pathways should not exceed four
(4) feet in width and only one (1) pathway is allowed per residential lot. Pathways should take the most direct
route from the house to the water or pier to minimize disturbance. Pathways must be made of pervious
materials such as mulch or sand. Pathways made of concrete, asphalt, pavers, rock, or gravel are not allowed
in buffer. Slatted boardwalks are allowed, provided the following guidelines are adhered to:
Boardwalk:
1. Boardwalks are allowed but spaces must be at least 1/4 inch apart between boards. The ground beneath
the boardwalk must be comprised of pervious material.
2. No trees can be cut or damaged during installation.
3. Width may be no more than 3 feet at any location.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. Thank you for your due
diligence and cooperation.
Have a good evening.

Amy,
The owner presented the Meck county permit the day of the site visit with DELS, see attached. The boardwalk was also
included in the dock application with Duke Energy.
See attached illustration with Boardwalk detail. Thanks again for your help and patience while learning this process.

Randy,
You will need to provide details of the boardwalk in the application. How it will be installed, material used, etc. Please
see the rules at this link 15a NCAC 02b .0614. You must also inform Mecklenburg County because they have their own
local buffer program. I've CC'd Ron Eubanks on this email.

Amy, I am sorry for the confusion.
Waterside Docks is not installing the boardwalk but the owner wants me to apply for the boardwalk in the
application. He has another contractor installing the boardwalk.

So you will not be installing the boardwalk, only the dredging and that is all you are requesting in this permit application
correct.

Amy,
There is no boardwalk currently. I am the agent pulling the permit for the dredging. During the pre -application meeting
with Duke Power Lake rep. the owner requested a boardwalk along the shoreline. The Duke Power Lake Service
representatives direction was the boardwalk can only be installed over the existing rip rap shoreline to minimize
additional shoreline disturbance. It was also mentioned to show the boardwalk on the DWR application. Let me know
if you need any other information. Thanks

If you could refill out that page and email it back to me that would be perfect. Also, can you tell me about the
boardwalk. Are you installing a boardwalk or is that pre-existing?

Good afternoon,
I'm a little confused on your square footage amount for the 760' landward 50'. Can you explain where the 7500 sqft is
coming from? The square footage for the access road that needs to be given in 10. Is just the square footage within the
50'. So if the access road is 15' there would be temporary impacts to the 30' buffer of 450' and 300' in the additional 20'
which makes up the total 50' buffer. Therefore your total temporary impacts (just for the access road) would be 750sgft.
Maybe this was just a typo?

I also noticed a boardwalk in the sketch. Is this boardwalk pre-existing or are you installing one for the client?
