Hi Bethany and Brittany—than you for your prompt response. Yes, I am reporting through the eDMR system. I reported for Q1, but for Q2 I will only be reporting for outfalls 3 and 4. Outfall 1 is now disturbed with the construction and is covered under the construction permit. Our environmental consultant informed us that we do not need to sample in outfall 2, but if I need to do that for Q2 I can—just let me know how to proceed on this one. Thank you. Learn why this is important CAUTION:This email originated from outside of the organization. Karen, I'm forwarding this request to Brittany Cook, our General Permits coordinator. Are you reporting through the eDMR system yet? Brittany can enter appropriate monitoring suspension dates as appropriate. We will need to maintain outfalls in our system that you have previously reported for, but adjustments can be made for periods they should not be sampled. i Best regards, Bethany Georgoulias (she/her) Environmental Engineer, Stormwater Program DEMLR Laserfiche Administrator Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources N.C. Dear Ms. Georgoulias, The Berk-Tek(a Leviton Company) located at 100 Technology Park Lane in Fuquay-Varina, NC currently operates under the Industrial Stormwater General Permit No. NCG030000 for Metal Fabrication. Our operations are located in two buildings: 100 Technology Park Lane (manufacturing), and 201 Dickens Road (leased warehouse space). Both sites are covered under the General Permit. Two stormwater outfalls are located adjacent to the Manufacturing Building (Outfalls#1 and#2) and two stormwater outfalls are located adjacent to the Warehouse Building (Outfalls#3 and#4). In February 2023, Berk-Tek/ Leviton began construction to expand the Manufacturing Building. The General Contractor obtained stormwater coverage under the General Construction Stormwater Permit No. NCG010000NC Reference No. NCG01-2023-0338 Certificate of Coverage No. NCC230338 Effective 2/7/2023.The construction work impacts Drainage Area#1 and Outfall #1 with construction stormwater impacting any sample point selected in Drainage Area#1. Due to the inability to gather a representative industrial stormwater sample and Drainage Area#1 being covered under the Construction General Permit, Berk-Tek/ Leviton requests Outfall #1 be moved to "dormant" status under the Industrial General Permit while the construction takes place. Once construction is complete, Leviton will notify NCDEQ of the new location for Outfall #1, or upon an updated assessment to verify that no industrial materials are exposed to stormwater across the entire site, file for a sitewide No Exposure Certification. Upon a review of industrial activities in Drainage Area#2 (draining to Outfall #2) our environmental consultant identified no industrial activities or materials exposed to stormwater. Previously, it was thought that the tool room that is located in the manufacturing building contributed particulate matter to the roof and could impact stormwater in Drainage Area #2. However, upon review of the tool room and discussions with NCDEQ on air permitting, the activity was deemed de minimis and did not trigger any air permitting concerns. The Leviton SWPPP will be updated to account for this change and the site will discontinue sampling at Outfall #2. 2 Once construction is complete, the expansion at the Manufacturing Building will eliminate Berk-Tek's use of the Warehouse Building. Therefore, Outfalls#3 and#4 will be discontinued once operations are consolidated post- construction. We will continue to sample Outfalls#3 and#4 during construction as they are not impacted by the expansion. Will you review our requests stated above and let us know if there are any questions. Since Q2 sampling is due within the month, we would appreciate any feedback that you have. We will update our SWPPP as soon as we have your feedback and have answered any questions that you may have. We are happy to discuss these stormwater impact findings, construction, etc. with NCDEQ at your convenience. We will update our SWPPP as soon as we have your feedback and have answered any questions that you may have.
