Subject: Compliance Inspection
Permit No. WQ0019469
Surface Irrigation Wastewater Treatment and Disposal System
Chatham County
Dear Erik M. and Elspeth Ohman;
On June 2, 2023, Tyler Clark of the NC Division of Water Resources (DWR), inspected the subject Single Family Residence Surface
Irrigation System. The purpose of the visit was to conduct a compliance inspection in support of a permit renewal application. I would
like to thank Aqwa staff for their on site assistance.
One June I, 2023, Aqwa staff completed their bi-annual inspection and cleaning of the facility. The Aqwa inspection included cleaning
all filters, checking the ultraviolet bulbs, pumping the septic tank, checking all the floats and alarms, and cycling the system to be sure
of proper operation. Aqwa reports were not submitted to staff at the time.
At the time of the DWR inspection Aqwa staff opened the treatment system and DWR staff were able to observe and verify the status
of the treatment units. The recirculating Advantex filters, the ultraviolet light, and all alarms appeared to be functional. The 3-zone
drip field needed a few leaks repaired during this inspection. Aqwa staff were able to repair the leaks at the time of this inspection.
The permit required two -wire fence needs replaced at this time. Please replace permit required 2-wire fence within 60 days of his letter
and contact DWR staff for a follow-up inspection.
You are required to take corrective measures regarding replacement of the required 2-wire fence within 60 days of receipt of this letter.
Please send a letter to our office upon completion of the fence repairs. Please inform our office if there are extenuating circumstances
that preclude compliance with the permit's conditions, or if there are any ways that we may be of assistance to help you bring this system
into compliance. Failure to comply with the State's rules and correct the noted deficiencies may result in the assessment of civil penalties
and/or the use of other enforcement mechanisms available to the State. If you have any questions concerning this inspection or the
necessary corrective measures, you may contact Tyler Clark via email at timothy.clark ci;dea.nc.gov or at (919) 791-4234.
Sincerely,
" x4t__
