FEBRUARY 17, 1978
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mr. A. F. McRorie, Ac i b Director
FROM: Vernon 0. Harris, Jr.
Supervisor, 201 Facilities Unit
SUBJECT: Status Report
Durham -Chapel Hill 201 Facility Plan
Mr. W. C. Bell from Water Planning Unit has requested a status report re-
garding the Durham -Chapel Hill Facility Flan. It is our understanding that
this ties into the Commission's decision regarding the Cane Creek water im-
poundment facility and the quality of the water in the New Hope Reservoir.
The New Hope basin portion of the Durham -Chapel Hill Facility Plan was certified
to EPA on November 30, 1977. EPA should be very near in making a grant offer
for the proposed New Hope basin projects. It is the New Hope basin projects
that would impact water quality standards in the New Hope basin. Specifically,
we wish to itemize those projects which are the selected alternatives for the
New Hope basin and also define the effluent limits for each point source
discharge. These plants are as follows:
1. Chapel Hill - Mason Farm WTP: Q = 8 mgd, BODS 5 mg/l, NH3 N Z 2 mg/l.
2. Durham - Farrington Road WTP: Q - 10 mgAl, BOD5= 7 mg/1, NH3 N = 2 mg/1.
3. Durham -Little Lick Creek WTP: Q = 1.5 mgl, BODS- 10 mg/l, NH3 N = 3 mg/1.
4. Durham County WTP: Q = 4 mgd, BOD5 = 11 mg/l, NH3 N = 4 mg/l.
Total suspended solids limits on all aforementioned WTP is 30 mg/1 with a DO
limit of 5 mg/l.
The Nuese basin portion as applied to the Durham Northside WTP and Eno WTP
will be certified after the completion of the Phase I Sewer System Evaluation
Survey.
