Home My WebLink AboutPre-Prospectus_Horsepen_Mar2023WILDLANDS ENGINEERING Horsepen Branch Harnett County, NC Wildlands Engineering, Inc. proposes the creation of the Horsepen Branch Stream and Wetland Mitigation Bank ("Bank") in the Cape Fear River Basin, Cataloging Unit 03030004 in Harnett County, North Carolina. This will be done under a modification to the Mid Cape Fear Umbrella Mitigation Bank. The bank will provide 3,348 stream credits and 3.487 wetland credits. The site is described below. SITE The Horsepen Branch site encompasses 18 acres and is proposed to include 2,800 linear feet (LF) of stream restoration, 822 LF of stream enhancement, and 1,930 LF of stream preservation. The site will also include 0.2 acres of wetland enhancement, 1.18 acres of wetland rehabilitation, and 2.6 acres of wetland re- establishment. The implementation of the mitigation concept will result in significant ecological improvements within the Little River watershed. Among these are improvements to aquatic and riparian habitat, reduction of nutrient and sediment loads, connection of the onsite streams to their floodplains, improvements to wetlands, and restoration of native riparian buffers. The attached figures illustrate the location of the bank site as well as the mitigation activities proposed.
