This letter serves as notice that there was a TSS exceedance at Outfall 004 at Greensboro Transit
Authority from a quarterly sampling event on January 4, 2023.
On 01/19/2023, I completed an investigation of possible causes of one Tier 1 TSS benchmark
value exceedances (105mg/L) for Outfall 004 discharges. The stormwater sample was taken on
01/04/2023 and the lab results were received on 01/18/2023.
Upon inspection of the outfall, I did not see any obvious signs of erosion. The outfall collects
water directly from a paved employee parking lot and paved bus parking lot. The water was clear
to light gray and did not have obvious signs of sedimentation at time of sampling. Upon
investigation, I noticed that pine straw was used as landscaping material across the entire
property and in all of the medians (directly above the storm drains that lead to Outfall 004)
throughout the employee parking lot. This is the only change noticed and given the historically
low TSS rates, I think the recent landscaping is why TSS levels were elevated this sampling
event.
We will continue conducting quarterly sampling and reporting for this location.
