NC DWR WQP File 1622 Sound Landing Road Project Narrative September 30, 2011 Introduction Doug and Sharon Twiddy propose to fill /stabilize an edge of a slope on property they own at 1622 Sound Landing Road. The fill was requested by their landscaper and arborist as a means to protect a small stand of mature hardwood trees that are in jeopardy of toppling over as a result of past tropical storms and soil wetness from rising water table and wetlands elevations. Existinq Conditions The property is a private single family residence situated on approximately 24 acres. Proposed Development The proposed development consists of constructing a low retaining wall and filling between 18 and 24 inches of soil over a 1,121 sf (0.026 acres) of Section 404 USACE Wetlands. The development requires Pre - Construction Notification and 401 Water Quality Certification because 0.026 acres of wetlands will be filled and disturbed. Avoidance and Minimization The minimum amount of fill is proposed to achieve the desired effect of preserving the existing stand of hardwood trees has been proposed.
