MEMORANDUM
TO: John Parker
FROM: Eric Fleek
THROUGH: John Dorney
SUBJECT: James Edward Briggs CAMA Dredge & Fill
The Division of Water Quality has reviewed the subject project and recommends the following:
1) An opening be provided in the bulkhead on the West Side of the basin to promote water exchange.
2) A portion of the proposed 2,980 sq. ft excavation of 404 wetlands should be preserved to filter runoff
from the 24" culvert before it enters the canal. The culvert may need to be extended to reach these
preserved wetland areas. .
3) The culverted ditch should be equipped with energy dissipaters to reduce the velocity of stormwater
flow into the preserved wetlands.
Since this project appears to be occurring in ORW waters and the waters adjacent to it are also open to the
harvesting of shellfish, these measures to protect and enhance water quality are warranted.
If there are any questions, please feel free to call.
