Memorial Drive PO Box 1587 Greenville, NC 27835 Attn: Ms. Sarah Lentine, PE, Resident Engineer RE: Contract ID: C204376 TIP: B-4786 Bridge #38 over Tar River on US 13 Pitt Co., NC Subject: Bridge Demolition Plan; Bridge 38 Dear Ms. Lentine: BRIDGE 38 The following is the English proposed plan and procedure for dismantling and removing of the existing 12 span bridge structure over the Tar River on US 13, Greenville, NC, (Bridge #38) 3 barges are planned in the river for receiving the concrete debris. Each barge is of the size 10'x40' approximately, and care will be taken not to disturb the river bed. Superstructure • Using CAT 320 hydraulic hoe ram, the existing deck and existing parapet will be broken. In spans over water, the concrete debris will be allowed to fall and will be captured in 3 barges that will be positioned to cover a full span at a time. This barge will be brought close to shore for removal and emptying of the debris, before being positioned under the next existing bridge span. The barge may be lined with a container that will be used to collect the fall debris and that can be lifted off the barge with a crane on the shore. The barges will not be dragged along the bottom or shore line. In spans over land, the concrete debris will be allowed to fall to the timber mats place on the ground. At this point, all debris will be loaded on a truck and hauled to the English waste site or other approved location(s). Substructure -All existing Bents • Work Bridge will be installed • Using crane Linkbelt LS 218HII (110 Ton), the cap and steel beams will be lifted out. • All existing piles will be removed completely or to at least one (1) foot below existing ground elevation or to river bed elevation. Substructure -End Bents 1 and 2 • Using hydraulic hoe ram and excavator, remove concrete portion of end bents • All piles will be removed to at least one (1) foot below existing ground elevation • Beam Max Weight Calculation - • Beam - 12" wide 3'-0" Height x 65' Length • At 150 lbs per foot, total weight of each beam: 9750 lbs or 4.9 Tons The specifications for the 320 excavator and Linkbelt LS 218HII are attached for your reference. All debris will be disposed of at the English waste site or other approved location(s). Concrete will be disposed of at Solid Waste and Recycling, Pitt County, NC ( Permit No. 7404- Transfer-9996, and other debris will be disposed at the same site (Permit 7404-TP-2016). Safety is always the first concern to English; as such no worker will be working closer than six feet (6') to an exposed edge higher than five feet (5') above the ground without having proper fall protection. English will also have a full time spotter on the ground to insure no one is in a dangerous location prior to demo work starting. This person will have complete authority to stop all operations if any unsafe work is noticed. Sincerely, W. C.
