That's because storm drains carry pollutants like soap, grease, fuels, chemicals, raw materials, fertilizers, pesticides, and more directly to the nearest creek or stream, unfiltered and untreated. Many people and - businesses will discharge these waste products onto roadways and parking lots, place containers of liquid waste into dumpsters and bins, and even pour leftover materials and wastewater directly down storm drains. This poisons our drinking water supply, kills our fish and plants, and it's illegal. As public service employees operating under a Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) it's our job to spot this pollution - at its source, where it lets out, or where evidence of past dumping remains and report it to a supervisor immediately.
