On behalf of Carolina Water Service, Inc. of NC (CWSNC), please accept this letter in response to the
Fairfield Harbour Notice of Violation, Tracking Number NOV-2023-DV-0170.
On March 28, 2023, a sanitary sewer overflow occurred at the intersection of Cassowary Lane and Broad
Creek Road in Fairfield Harbour. This was caused by a break in a six-inch sewer force main leaving a lift
station. The break in the force main was sudden and the cause is unknown.
Upon receiving notice of the broken sewer force main Carolina Water Service Inc. of NC employees
immediately responded by turning off the lift station that pumped into the broken force main. An emergency
remediation contractor was contacted, and 13,500 gallons of the sanitary sewer overflow was able to be
recovered. The broken section of force main was replaced and the force main was placed back in service.
