Permits & Engineering Comments:
This is a permit renewal for a discharge of 0.03 MGD of treated wastewater into the Tuckasegee River
in the Little Tennessee River Basin. Within the past twelve months this facility had no violations of
permit limits. The facility seems to be operating well. The facility currently does not use any methods
of disinfection. Permits and Engineering will recommend existing limitations with monitoring
reflecting a class II facility. The region needs to verify facility class and precisely describe components.

Permit renewal
NPDES Permit No. NCO061620
Swain County
I completed the staff report for the above referenced permit
renewal on May 19, 1997. The recommendation was made to modify
the permit from a flow limit of 30,000 gpd to 10,000 gpd. I have
just talked to Linda McKay, permittee, by telephone, and she
agrees with the change.

PART IV - EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The NPDES permit lists a flow limit of 30,000 gpd. The Authorization to
Construct permit was issued in 1985 for a 10,000 gpd plant, which was
constructed. Flows for the previous two years were reviewed, which
indicated that maximum daily flows do not exceed 5000 gpd. The flow
limit should reflect 10,000 gpd.
It is recommended that the permit be renewed with a flow limit of 10,000
gpd unless justification is received from the permittee for additional
flow.
