To whom it may concern,
This letter is in response of NOV-2022-LV-0827 and NOV-2022-LV-0828, for Town of Hot Springs
(NC0025836) for the months of June and July 2022.
The parameter violations were for BOD and TSS. During the months of June and July there was
excessive rainfall which caused a power outage on June 2nd. In June, James and James placed the 2nd blower on
hand, but it did not stay running. In July, James and James placed the 1st blower on hand, with the
temperatures so warm it took a significant time to regain a reasonable DO. James and James requested a new
blower through the CIP and it is now being installed in December of 2022.
The next violation was for Fecal Coliform. James and James moved the chlorine feed to the tablet
feeder to provide a stronger concentration with the use of tablets. To date, this appears to be working to keep
the Fecal Coliform within limits.
Even with the exceedance, the facility operated at a greater than 85% removal for the month. On
6/29 the removal percentage was at 94.79%, on 7/9 it was 52.98%, however the influent was >114. On 7/16
the percent removed was 86.6%, and on 7/30 it was 97.66%. The monthly percent removal for June was
95.6% on BOD, and 86% on TSS. In July, the percent removal was 92.3% on BOD, and 94.3% on TSS.
Therefore, we respectfully request your consideration of any fines. Thank you for sending the
