This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NC0060283. A summary of the findings and comments noted during the inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report. The Compliance Evaluation inspection was conducted by Division of Water Resources staff from the Asheville Regional Office. The cause of these failures needs to be discovered and abated. Remedial actions should have already been taken to correct this problem and prevent further occurrences in the future. We met with the ORC, Mark Jones, for the inspection. Mr. Jones didn't know the number of septic tanks in the system nor the number of sand filters in the system. This facility didn't discharge any effluent from October 2022 through December 2022. Mr. Jones believes this may have been caused by a diversion of groudwater during that period. The presence of iron bacteria on the aeration cascade supports the idea that much of the effluent flow is actually groundwater infiltrating the wastewater treatment system. NC0060283 17 (Cont.)
