Zidar 382 Perfect Moment Drive Durham N.C. 27713 NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality May 10, 2023 Subject: Compliance Evaluation Inspection Single Family Wastewater Treatment System Non -Discharge Permit # WQ0020821 Facility: 382 Perfect Moment Drive, SFR Chatham County Dear Mr. and Mrs. Zidar, On May 04, 2023, Curtis Tyree, from the Raleigh Regional Office visited your single-family residence (SFR) wastewater treatment system to evaluate compliance with the subject Non - Discharge Permit WQ0020821. Our records indicate that your system consists of, a 1,500 gallon baffled septic tank with an effluent filter; dual recirculating Advantex AX-20 filters; a 2,500 gallon tank with a recirculating pump; a 2,500 gallon dosing tank with a 20 gallon per minute dosing pump; audio/visual high water alarms; a rain sensor; an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection unit; and a 0.37 acre drip irrigation area with all associated piping, valves, controls, and appurtenances. Non -Discharge Permit WQ0021950 authorizes the continued operation up to 600 gallons per day (gpd). The authorized irrigation is in accordance with the effluent limits and monitoring requirements established within the non -discharge permit. The items below show what conditions were noted at your facility: Findings during the inspection were as follows: L Treatment system operation; The wastewater treatment system shall be effectively maintained and operated at all times so there is no discharge to surface waters, nor any contravention of groundwater or surface water standards. At the time of this inspection, the facility appears to be effectively maintained. There were no signs of runoff or ponding in the irrigation field Mr. Vidar inspects his system once a week and the Vidar's have a service agreement with AQUA that inspects the system two times per year. E Q North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality I Division of Water Resources Raleigh Regional Office 1 3800 Barret Drive I Raleigh, North Carolina 27609 D_ or+M 919 791.42DD 2. Pumping the septic tank: You are required to inspect the septic tank at least once a year to determine if solids must be removed or if other maintenance is necessary. Septic tanks should be pumped out every five years or when the solids level is found to be more than 1?3 of the liquid depth in the septic tank compartment, whichever is greater. A pumping company can check the status periodically and determine when pumping is required. The septic tank was not in need of pumping during the last inspection by AQUA. 3 UV disinfection: Your system uses an ultra -violet (UV) light system for disinfection of the wastewater. A UV disinfection system provides effective disinfection and prevents/limits harmful bacteria from entering the environment. Unless the UV disinfection unit is monitored by telemetry, the unit shall be checked weekly. The lamp(s) and quartz sleeve(s) shall be cleaned or replaced as needed to insure proper disinfection of the wastewater. At the time of this inspection, the UV system was working by design and the system is inspected annually by a contractor (AQUA). 4. Proper Operation and maintenance: The system shall be inspected monthly to make certain of the proper operation of the spray heads, that the system is free of leaks, that the vegetative growth allows a proper spray pattern, that the soil is assimilating the disposed treated wastewater with no surface run off, and that no objectional odors are being generated. Any visible signs of a malfunctioning system shall be documented, and steps taken to correct the problem. On the day of this inspection, the spray field appeared to be assimilating the waste and no ponding/runoff was observed. The pumps and audible/visual alarms as well as the rain sensors were working properly, and the system looked to be well maintained. 5. Field conditions: Public access to the irrigation sites and wastewater treatment facilities shall be prohibited. Fencing shall be provided to prevent access to the irrigation site. The irrigation field was well maintained, and no leaks or broken lines were found The fencing was more than adequate, and the system was in good working order. Non -discharge Permit WQ0020821 requires the permittee pay the annual fee within 30 days after being billed by the division, and that the permittee must apply for a permit renewal 180 days prior to the expiration of the permit. There are no overdue fees for the subject permit. Please continue to periodically inspect the wastewater treatment facility in accordance with your Operation and Maintenance agreement to ensure the treatment components are always D s& E North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality I pension of Water Resources Raleigh Regional Office 13800 Barrett Drive I Raleigh, North Carolina 27609 Q 919 791 4200 maintained and in good operating order.
