Dear Mr. "Tedder:
Re: 401 Certificate for Removal of Dillsboro Dam on the Tuckasegee River
F'L;RC Project Number 2602
I am writing to support the initiative to remove the Dillsboro Dam. I live in Swain
County, North Carolina approximately 25 miles from the Dillsboro Dam. I have paddled
on the Tuckasegee River for more than 20 years, although as the years go by, I find
myself less frequently on the water. Nevertheless, I know the area upstream and
downstream of the dam well and believe removal of the dam would be good for the river,
its fish and wildlife inhabitants and users of the resource.
1 believe the plans for removal of the dam can be carried out so that any short term
negative impacts on the area will be more than offset by long term benefits of restoring
the river to a free flowing condition through Dillsboro.
I will not bore you or take more of your time by rehashing the various arguments you
have heard before. I simply want to voice my support for removal of the dam.
Sincerely,
