This inspection was a follow-up to the CEI conducted on March 21, 2023. Tristan Odekirk (Environmental Engineer, EPA), Mark Bentley (Earth Environmental Services - ORC), John Winchester (Special Projects Manager), Ben Powell (Lead Maintenance), Robert Triplan (Engineer), Constantine Roumel (Owner), and Wendy Miller (Roumelco Group) were present during the inspection. Since the inspection on March 21, 2023, general housekeeping has improved because the PVC pipes were cleared out. Currently, maintenance staff are cleaning/raking the first and third sand filter beds, and the second one is next. The black sand in the middle sand filter will be removed and replaced with new sand. Currently, the third sand filter bed is the only one in use. Mr. Winchester indicated that there is approximately 8” of vegetation/organic debris built up on the bottom of the recirculation tank, which he believes may be introducing excess ammonia into the system. They are planning to remove this vegetation/debris and see if this improves ammonia levels. The chlorination/de-chlorination dosers have been purchased and should be there to install in the next couple weeks. A second pump will be installed in the recirculation tank to be used as a backup pump. Flow initially enters the two septic tanks in series and then goes into a holding tank, which was not mentioned in the initial inspection report. It was also determined that the primary flow initially moves underneath the sand filters, into the recirculation tank, and is then recirculated through the spray nozzles. Mr. Bentley will be providing weekly updates regarding progress of the WWTP repairs to the EPA and DEQ staff. NC0037737 17 (Cont.)
