This is about the coal dumping proposed in the Brickhaven area in Moncure (Chatham County) and the Colon Rd. area in Moncure /Sanford line(Lee County). I do live within the 3 mile radius this dump site is proposed to take place. I highly recommend you re- consider this. This area is getting more and more populated everyday. Aside from that, this is my home that I share with my husband and my animals. I am a small time hobby farmer and enjoy gardening and small scale farming to provide a cleaner /healthier way of life for myself. We moved in this area 10 yrs. ago so we could be away from the town/city life a little but still close enough to commute to our "real jobs ". We both enjoy the openness of the area out here and the ability to do some small farming and raise animals and food for ourselves. We already have been burdened with McGill Compost less than a mile from us. We were unaware of this plant in the area until way after we moved in. We were in for a BIG surprise. The smell coming off the plant in the evening is HORRIBLE! The ammonia smell is just overpowering and makes a person want to vomit at times, it is THAT strong! It comes through our windows (that are closed) and wakes us up out of deep sleep at times. We have filed complaints and this is a on -going battle I still fight to this day. I don't want to have to also be plagued with possibly breathing in coal ash as well. I do fear for the health of my animals and myself if this passes. I strongly suggest you re- consider passing these permits! We DO NOT want this to contaminate our soil and ground waters! We also have a lot of wildlife in the area that have also made this place their home and I don't want to see them suffer with the consequences of what the ash will do to them either. Thanks for taking the time to read our concerns. Amy Obermiller Moncure, NC
