SkvarlaLncdenr. gov Neal.robbins(,ncdenr. gov Carr. mclambLncdenr.gov Re: Duke Energy request for permits to bury coal ash in abandoned clay mines in Chatham and Lee counties It is my understanding that the deadline to voice concerns about burying million of tons of coal ash is May 16, 2015. As a resident of North Carolina since 1983, I am opposed to granting permits to Duke Energy for the burial of coal ash in Chatham or Lee County. I am a relatively new resident of Chatham County, having moved here because of the beauty of the land and the water. How can the burial of pure poison be considered for this gorgeous area lush with forests and farms, full of creeks, rivers and the amazing Jordan Lake and Cape Fear River Basin? I lived in the ruckus of Charlotte for 30 years and am thereby well acquainted with Duke Energy and Pat McCrory. I do not have a high opinion of Duke Energy. I do not believe they as a corporate entity are trustworthy. I do not believe Pat McCrory would have suggested this burial for Mecklenburg County during his tenure as Mayor (not with Hugh McColl looking over his shoulder). I am afraid that the Governor has drunk far too much tea since his arrival in Raleigh. Nevertheless, I am a citizen in opposition. I might suggest that the upper echelon of Duke Energy officers and employees, and others who have so hugely profited from Duke Energy including Governor McCrory volunteer their back yards and their personal retreats to be used for the disposal of THEIR waste. If it is SO safe, they should have NO objection.
