Jamie Kritzer Public information officer N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources 1601 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699 -1601 919 - 707 -8602 (work) Jamie. Kritzer @ncdenr.gov Email correspondence to and from this address is subject to the North Carolina Public Records Law and may be disclosed to third parties. DATE: 11 1 TO: C DEPT n. 0- A A It is our conviction that coal ash is toxic to the environment and to the health of human beings. Recent events would indicate that Duke Energy and its surrogates have not achieved sufficient expertise in the safe storage of coal ash . It would be our preference that no coal ash be stored in Lee or Chatham counties. We share DENR's goal of long term protection of our water sources. Baseline testing is the recommendation of the Southern Environmental Law Center for sites where coal ash will be stored. We are requesting that no coal ash be transported into Lee and Chatham counties until' we have sufficient data to effectively monitor our water sources into the future. mm=* A A Jamie Kritzer, Public Information Officer NC Dept. of Environment & Natural 'Resources 1601 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1601
