Mr. Khan and Mr. Eplin,
Darling Ingredients Inc. (Bakery Feeds) herein provides the North Carolina Department of Environmental
Quality, Mooresville Regional Office (NCDEQ) notification of the recent exceedance of the NPDES Permit
NCG060220 (Permit) identified benchmark concentration for Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total
Suspended Solids (TSS) at Outfall 002 and TSS at Outfall 003. This notification fulfills the reporting
requirements identified in Permit Conditions E-5(a) and E-6(a). On April 18, 2023, Bakery Feeds received
the laboratory reports from Pace Analytical Services (formerly Shealy Environmental Services, Ince.)
indicating an elevated COD concentration of 160 mg/L and TSS concentration of 120 mg/L at Outfall 002,
while the TSS concentration at Outfall 003 was found to be at 110mg/L for the April 1, 2023, sampling
event.
Bakery Feeds will conduct a storm water management inspection, identify and evaluate possible causes of
the benchmark exceedance, and review and implement feasible courses of action to reduce concentrations
of COD and TSS pursuant to the timeline detailed in Permit Conditions E-5(a) and E-6(a). Additionally,
monthly monitoring will be instituted at Outfall 002 effective June 1st. If you should have any additional
questions, please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience.
