Elizabeth Richardson, property owner, was present during the inspection. A review of records, treatment components, and system operations was completed. This inspection reflected compliance with the subject permit. The waste treatment system is an E-Z Treat recirculating media filter system with ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. Waste flows from the residence to a septic tank, then into the recirculating filter media system. It then flows through a chamber where it is treated with a UV light. This treated water then flows into a 2-inch PVC pipe which discharges downhill of the system to an unnamed tributary to Town Creek. The septic tank and the recirculating filter system are located on the south side of the house. Observations: • Ms. Richardson stated that the residence has a recirculating media filter system. • According to Ms. Richardson, Water Management of Lenoir services the system twice a year. One inspection is to check the operation of the system, and the second is to collect the annual effluent sample. The UV bulb is replaced at each inspection. • Water Management sends the laboratory data to the homeowner. The most recent data had not been received by Mrs. Richardson as of the date of the inspection. • Ms. Richardson stated that they had not had any problems with the system except for the replacement of the alarm. • No evidence of leakage or odors was noted around the system. • The alarm system was tested and works. • Dan River Water, Inc. provides water to the residence. • The effluent discharge point was inspected. Flow was observed coming out of the pipe. • The residence was constructed in 2007. Six individuals currently live in the residence. • The permit fees are up to date. • Ms. Richardson stated that the tanks in the system, including the septic tank, were pumped out during the week of April 24th. The sludge levels in the system tanks are checked during each biannual visit.
