(SEI) visited the Blue Ridge Tissue site located at 1427 Yadkin River Road in Patterson, North Carolina, to collect groundwater samples from monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-6, MW-7 and MW-8. The depth to groundwater in the monitoring wells ranged from 5.03 feet in MW-4 to 50.41 feet in MW-2. Refer to Table 1 for all monitoring well groundwater depths, and Figure 1 for all monitoring well locations. All groundwater samples, except for MW-2 were collected using a peristaltic pump connected to a Horiba U52-2 water quality meter with a flow-through-cell to collect groundwater parameters (temperature, pH, specific conductivity, dissolved oxygen, ORP, and turbidity). Groundwater sample MW-2 was collected using a clear PVC bailer. The groundwater samples were submitted on ice to Pace Analytical for the analysis of 8-RCRA Metals, pH, ammonia, TKN, sulfate, nitrogen, nitrite and nitrate. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-1 detected concentrations of iron and manganese above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The iron was detected at a lower concentration than the November 2022 analysis and manganese was detected at a higher concentration than the November 2022 analysis. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-2 detected concentrations of barium, iron, manganese, arsenic, chromium, and ammonia above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. Monitoring well MW-2 was dry in November 2022; however, the results are comparable to the July 2022 concentrations. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-3 detected concentrations of arsenic, iron, manganese, and ammonia above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. All concentrations were lower than the November 2022 concentrations. Singleton Environmental, Inc. Singleton Environmental, Inc. The laboratory analysis of groundwater sample MW-4 detected concentrations of total iron and total manganese above the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. Both concentrations were slightly lower than the November 2022 concentrations. Laboratory analysis of groundwater samples MW-6, MW-7, and MW-8 did not detect any concentrations exceeding the NCAC 2L groundwater standards. The analytical results are shown on Table 2 and the attached laboratory data sheets. During the April 2017 groundwater sampling event, AECOM reported a possible sheen on the groundwater in monitoring well MW-4. During the March 2023 event a sheen was not observed. The compound levels detected in the groundwater analysis for the March 2023 sampling event detected relatively lower concentration levels in monitoring wells MW -1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4 and MW-7 compared to the November 2022 concentrations. Therefore, Singleton Environmental, Inc. recommends sampling the monitoring wells again in July 2023 to continue tracking the groundwater concentration and groundwater level trends. If you have any questions, you can reach me at (828) 508-4510. Sincerely, Chris Singleton, P.G. ND - Not Detected at or above adjusted reporting limit. TNTC - Too Numerous To Count J - Estimated concentration above the adjusted method detection limit and below the adjusted reporting limit. MDL - Adjusted Method Detection Limit. PQL - Practical Quantitation Limit. RL - Reporting Limit - The lowest concentration value that meets project requirements for quantitative data with known precision and bias for a specific analyte in a specific matrix. S - Surrogate 1,2-Diphenylhydrazine decomposes to and cannot be separated from Azobenzene using Method 8270. The result for each analyte is a combined concentration. Consistent with EPA guidelines, unrounded data are displayed and have been used to calculate % recovery and RPD values. LCS(D) - Laboratory Control Sample (Duplicate) MS(D) - Matrix Spike (Duplicate) DUP - Sample Duplicate RPD - Relative Percent Difference NC - Not Calculable. SG - Silica Gel - Clean-Up U - Indicates the compound was analyzed for, but not detected. Acid preservation may not be appropriate for 2 Chloroethylvinyl ether. A separate vial preserved to a pH of 4-5 is recommended in SW846 Chapter 4 for the analysis of Acrolein and Acrylonitrile by EPA Method 8260. N-Nitrosodiphenylamine decomposes and cannot be separated from Diphenylamine using Method 8270. The result reported for each analyte is a combined concentration. Reported results are not rounded until the final step prior to reporting. Therefore, calculated parameters that are typically reported as "Total" may vary slightly from the sum of the reported component parameters. Pace Analytical is TNI accredited. Contact your Pace PM for the current list of accredited analytes. TNI - The NELAC Institute.
