This legislation created the Office of Environmental Education (OBE) ; W, ithin the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health, and Natur6i Resources and calls for the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to work with EHNR to promote environmental education in the schools. North Carolina Environmental Education Act of 1973 The North Carolina Environmental Education Act of 1973 addressed a number of mandates contained in the 1993 Environmental Education Act and also created a North Carolina Environmental Education and Information Program within the Department of Administration. V.. A i§tate General Master Plan for Developing Environmental Education Prc#*.s in North Carolina The 47-member Governor's Task Force on Environmental Education was appointed by the Governor in May 1971 and charged with, among other things, "actualizing the suggested solutions in public awareness and education through a State Plan for Environmental Education." By March 1974, the group had compiled A State General Master Plan for Developin PrndramA in North Carolina. The document cotained the following recommendations for [topic): VI. QoRstal Futures Committee Governor James B. Hunt declared 1994 as the Yar of the Coast. By executive order on July 15, 1993, he formed the Coastal Futures Committee (CFC) and delegated to its members the duties of evaluating the Coastal Area Management Act and making recommendations for the future protection of our coastal resources. Public hearings have been held to the coastal region of the state to allow the public opportunities to make ;comments or suggestions on the recommendations. As of July 6, the committee has.drafted recommendations pertaining to (topic) as follows: VII. Pouution Prevention Advisory Council On Jply 1, 1993, the General Assembly enacted House Bill 976 which created the Pollution Prevention Advisory Council (PPAC). INivironmental Education Conference: Building a Shared Vision for Envirb# mental Educatio#ft in North Carolina The 1992 Environmental Education Conference: Building a Shared Vision for Environmental Education in North Carolina was held in November 1992 and co-sponsored by the North Carolina Departments of Environment, Health and Natural Resources and Public instruction, along with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Held at the Research Triangle Park, the event was attended by approximately 150 educators and others with interests in and contributions to environmental education. Among the outcomes of the conference were recommendations for the Office of Environmental Education to take steps toward [topic] IX. Council of State Governments Suggested State Legislation The publication Council of State Qovernments Suggested State Legislation was developed in 1993 by the Council of State Governments Committee on Suggested State Legislation.
