The City of Asheboro Water/Sewer Maintenance Department received a call on May 181", 2022 about sewer
coming out of a pipe. The investigator responded right away. When the investigator arrived he found sewer coming out
of a 24 inch pipe that is sitting on pillars over the creek. He called in a crew right away to fix the issue.
The crew arrived on site and brought a 24 inch clamp with them and installed it to stop the leak. When they did
this they noticed the 24 inch pipe in that area was thin and corroding. We knew we didn't have a lot of time before this
would happen again. We contacted suppliers for new 24" pipe and hired a crane company to set the new pipe over the
creek onto the pillars. We also excavated the ground further back to replace the old corroded pipe with new ductile iron
pipe. The total amount of Sewer Main we have replaced is 72 ft. with more to come. We have ordered more ductile
iron pipe and are going to replace more pipe past our repair that we have found to be corroded when this pipe arrives.
The City of Asheboro requests that the NCDENR refrain from taking any enforcement action as a result of this
incident. The Water/Sewer Maintenance Department displayed a prompt response time. There was no environmental
