This letter is in response to the Notice of Violation, Case No. DV-2022-0063 concerning the spill that
occurred on December 20th, 2021, at 1900 Fern Avenue, Guilford County, High Point, North Carolina.
The spill at the above -mentioned address lasted for approximately 47 minutes. The crews arrived onsite
at 1900 Fern Avenue at 10:17am. The crews used a sewer combination cleaning truck to unstop the
sewer main. It was determined that the blockage was caused by a large amount of grease coming from
the private lines in the Housing Authority area. There had been another spill in the area approximately a
week prior in another manhole upstream of this location. Once the spill was stopped, all solids were
removed, and lime was spread over the area as needed. The line was inspected by CCTV camera to see
if there were any other issues, and none were found. FOG door hangers were passed out in the area to
help educate the residents about proper disposal of grease.
The mini basin around this area was cleaned to prevent another repeat spill. The frequency of cleaning /
inspection has been increased to help prevent any future spills in this area.
