The spill at the above -mentioned address lasted for 2 hours and 46 minutes. The crews arrived onsite at 1724 Hamilton Street at 12:23pm. The crews used a sewer combination cleaning truck to unstop the sewer main. It was determined that the blockage was caused by a large amount of grease coming from the private lines within the apartment complex. The overflowing manhole was located on the edge of a creek bank and there was no feasible way to divert the flow from getting into the creek. There have been previous spills from other manholes downstream of this location. Once the spill was stopped, all solids were removed, and lime was spread over the area as needed. The line was inspected by CCTV camera to see if there were any other issues, and none were found. FOG door hangers were passed out in the area to help educate the residents about proper disposal of grease. The mini basin around this area was cleaned to prevent another repeat spill. The frequency of cleaning / inspection has been evaluated to help prevent any future spills in this area.
