Water Quality Regional Operations
450 West Hanes Mill Road, Suite 300
Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105
Dear Mr. Snider,
This letter is in response to the Notice of Violation and Recommendation for Enforcement Letter
dated August 12, 2022 received by the City of Greensboro. The address where the violation
occurred and the amount spilled is shown below:
1. 2717 Patterson Street 6,000 Gallons
On June 2, 2022 at 2717 Patterson Street, the sanitary sewer release was due to debris in the
sanitary sewer at this address. A combination jet truck was dispatched to unstop the blockage and
clean the line. Once the sanitary sewer overflow was stopped, we thoroughly cleaned all lines in
the area to ensure we could perform a CCTV inspection of the lines, and we found no
deficiencies to correct. We did find a substantial amount of gravel in the lines and thoroughly
cleaned all lines to prevent future issues. The line is now on a biannual PM schedule, and we will
monitor the line to see if that cycle needs to be increased in the future. Heavy flow in this area
contributed to the large spill volume.
Remediation efforts include opening fire hydrants to flush the affected area.
It is our duty to comply with the requirements of Collection System Permit Number WQCS00006
and G. S. 143-215. 1 (a)(1), and we will continue to address unforeseen circumstances as quickly
as they occur. If any additional information is required, please do contact me. We appreciate
your review and welcome your feedback.
Sincerely yours,
Robert Martin, Construction and Maintenance Supervisor
