DWQ Project # 07-0358
Wake County
Southmoor Subdivision -Stream Evaluation- Documentation
On Apri14, 2007, DWQ personnel looked at 5 sites along the 120-foot road crossing
corridor located within the southwest portion of the site. Water was present at all sites
and flow was visible at all but one. Fingernail clams were very abundant at all sites. At
the upstream end of the corridor I found a caddisfly and a riffle beetle. I called this
perennial. The next site was a pool between piles of slash in the stream. It yielded
multiple large tadpoles and was also called perennial. The I/P flag was put at the bottom
of this pool. A third site, in the center of the crossing was rutted from a relic logging
road and recent 4 ATV traffic. While there was a large amount of algae here, no
perennial indicators were found and this segment was called intermittent. Site 4 was
downstream of the center point and yielded a mayfly (Leptophlebia) and a winter stonefly
and was called intermittent. The final site, at the downstream end of the crossing only
yielded a caddisfly (Ironoquia) and so was called intermittent.
