The Groundwater Protection Branch does not have concerns related to the proposed pumping of seep discharge back
the ash basin with respect to direct groundwater impacts. However, location S-9 is identified in the Lee facility Ash
Impoundment Groundwater Assessment Plan as a part of the site characterization effort. To date, we have not receiv
any communication from Duke that the location been • -•. The Division needs to know the status of
proposed sampling at that specific location and/or if there are plans to propose an alternate location. Because of its
strategic location, -• sampling may be proposed - current position of s as part of - ongoing monitoring of
the facility as part of the corrective action plan. In summary, the Central Office needs to know how the proposed actio
impacts the ongoing groundwater assessment, the upcoming corrective action plan, and if a variance of the GAP is
needed as a result of the proposed action. I
