(Aqua) provides the following response to the above -referenced Notice of Violation, which was issued for a February 17, 2023, Sanitary Sewer Overflow located at 1068 The Parks Dr, Pittsboro. Aaua's Response: A contractor, working in the new construction area of the system, struck an Aqua sewer force main while surface grading and installing landscaping at a newly built home. The damage released sewage into the street and nearby storm drain. The storm drain discharged into a nearby retention pond. The retention pond was equipped with an isolation valve which staff immediately closed to stop the release of water from the retention pond into an unnamed tributary. It was estimated that roughly 500 gallons of water from the retention pond made it through the isolation valve before it was closed. Aqua dispatched its emergency contractors to assess and mitigate the contractor strike. Aqua's environmental contractor emptied the retention pond, fully mitigated the unnamed tributary, and cleaned the storm drains and streets. Aqua has the contact information of the contractor at fault. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at (919) 653-6982.
