SUBJECT: Project Information for the Replacement of Bridge #103 on NC 103 over
Canoe Creek, Burke County, North Carolina, STIP No. BR-0068
Dear Mr. Mitchell,
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Project Management Unit
(PMU) is beginning the project development, environmental, and engineering studies for the
BR-0068 project. The project proposes to replace Bridge #103 on NC 126 over Canoe Creek in
Burke County. The project is included in the NCDOT’s Current State Transportation
Improvement Program (STIP) and is scheduled for right of way in fiscal year 2023 and
construction in fiscal year 2024. The attached figure shows the study area for the proposed
project.
NCDOT is preparing a Categorical Exclusion document for the proposed improvements.
In lieu of holding an in-person scoping meeting, NCDOT is providing the attached project
information and maps. We welcome your input on the proposed project, and we would
appreciate any information that may be helpful in evaluating the potential environmental
effects. If applicable, please identify any permits or approvals that may be required by your
organization. Please provide your input by February 9, 2022.
