NCDEO Water Quality Classification
The MARSOC Campus drains to the Stones Bay area of the New River. Runoff from the site
enters Stones Bay through an unnamed tributary and tidal saltwater swamp (classification SC). The
entirety of Stones Bay has a classification of SA/HOW'. The SA classification denotes tidal saltwater
used for commercial shell fishing or marketing and are, by default, considered high quality waters
(HOW). The HOW supplemental designation is for waters that have biological and
physical/chemical characteristics deemed important by one or more State Agencies.
