Dear Chuck Pakala,
Thank you for reaching out to confirm the policies of Raleigh Water regarding the discharge of boiler
blowdown to the sanitary sewer system. Per your proposal,
• The boiler water does not directly contact the products, materials, or processes at the
manufacturing facility. 4
• Small amounts of boiler blowdown will be discharged to the sanitary sewer —approximately 100
to 130 gallons per day.
• Chemicals for the treatment of pH, Calcium, and corrosion inhibition of the boiler will be
included in the discharge —approximately 300 ml/day of FDA approved chemical BL850.
• A steel tank will be used to dissipate the heat from the boiler blowdown before it is discharged
to the sanitary sewer.
This letter serves as an authorization for the discharge boiler blowdown at Braven Environmental, LLC at
517 N. Industrial Dr., Zebulon, NC.
Please note the City of Raleigh Sewer Use Ordinance specifically prohibits wastewater having a pH of
less than 5.0 or greater than 12.0 as well as wastewater having a temperature greater than 150 degrees
Fahrenheit (66 degrees Celsius), see Sec. 8-2113(b).
