An additional temporary pole is proposed in the north quadrant of the bridge, for a total of two temporary poles for the project. Additionally, the utility has now indicated both poles will each require a guy wire. The installation of the guy wires will impact wetlands, resulting in a total of 420 sq. ft. of temporary hand clearing. Each guy wire will require hand clearing an area 6' wide by 35' long in the understory of the wetlands. The areas are shown in the attached photos. The guy wires will be placed in a manner that will not impact any mature trees in the wetlands, only impacting the understory of the flooded swamp. Mats will be used in the wetland area of the maintained 1 utility corridor to move the auger truck into position for pole and guy wire installation. The auger arm of the truck will reach into the hand cleared areas from the maintained corridor to install the anchors for the guy wires. After bridge construction, the power line will be relocated to its original alignment and the temporary poles and guy wires will be removed. The hand cleared areas for the guy wires will not be maintained. Due to the use of matting in the maintained wetland areas of the corridor, the 106 sq. ft. of wetland impacts for the temporary pole from the previous utility permit drawings have been removed. The attached revised permit drawing includes the 420 sq. ft. of temporary hand clearing for the guy wires and the additional temporary pole. With the additional 420 sq. ft. (0.00964 acres) of temp. hand clearing, the total temporary hand clearing for the project will be 0.08864 acres. With the 0.005 acres of permanent fill and 0.006 acres of excavation, total wetland impacts will be 0.09964 acres. Expedition of this permit modification request would be most appreciated, with the start of the bridge replacement scheduled to begin the first of June. The utilities will need to be relocated before the bridge replacement can proceed. Please let me know if there is any additional information you need, or any questions you may have about the request.
