RE: Refinement of CAMA Major Development Permit No. '17-14, Replacement of
Bridge #3 aver Deep Creek on US 264, Dare County.
Dear Mr. Willis:
This letter is in response to your request dated Apri127, 2015, including the attached drawings
(3}: 2 dated April 16, 2015 and 1 dated April 17, 2015, requesting approval for changes in the
design of Bridge #3 over Deep Creek in Dare Caunty. An error in the consti-uction benchmark
elevation has resulted in ihe bridge structure and roadway approaches being set at an 8.5" higher
elevation than the ariginal design. The increased roadway elevation will require more fill and
result in a steeper slope of 1.5:1 at sections of the road shoulder. The newly designed road
shoulder will be stabilized with 685 feet of rip rap. No additional surface water or wetland
impacts are requested or anticipated with the request. �
Please be advised that through this Letter of Refi�ement, the N.C. Division of Coastal
Management (DCM) conveys its determination that t�e 1.5:1 slope and 685 feet of rip rap
shoulder stabilization as described in your request dated Apri127, 2015 is consistent with
existing State rules and regulations and is in keeping with the original purpose and intent of
CAMA Major Permit No. 77-14.
This letter shall be attacheci to the original of CAMA Permit No. 77-14, which was issued on
August 29, 2014, and both documents shall be readily available on site when a DCM
representative inspects the project for compliance. All conditions and stipulations of the active
permit remain in force unless altered herein. This approval does not eliminate the need ta abtain
any additional permits, approvals or authorizations that may be required.
