Subject: RE: Bridge to bottomless culvert, comment request: Bridge No. 253 on SR 2178
(Rumley Road) over Brick House Creek, Alamance Ca (UNCLASSIFIED)
WRC does not object to NCDOT's proposal to replace bridge No. 253 with a Bottomless culvert.
One comment I would like to add: Often I find the footers for bottomless culverts are installed too close to the stream
bank, this usually results in bank destabilization due to the soil disturbance as well as the lack of vegetation
establishment under the structure, ultimately resulting in an over widened channel bounded by the structure. If the
culvert is sized appropriately (or oversized) enough to pull the footers back away from the bank this reduces the
likelihood of that happening.

Hi Travis and Gary, I hope you're both doing well. I would like your comments on NCDOTs proposed replacement of a
bridge with a bottomless culvert. The site is located at 35.95475 N, -79.337307 over Brick House Creek. The attached
file includes the cover letter, PCN, bridge to culvertjustification, site map, and plans. If you can have your comments
back within 2 weeks it will allow enough time to either verify the use of the permit or request more information within
my allotted time frame. If you have any questions or would prefer not to be included on similar requests for comment
in the future please let me know. Thanks again.
