GENERAL NOTES
L Approximate Locations of Existing Utilities are Shown on Drawings. Notify 811 and Utility
Owners to Mark Location of Existing Utilities at least 72 Hours prior to Commencing
Construction Activity. Contractor Responsible for Verifying Exact Location of These Existing Utilities.
The Cost to Repair These Facilities, if Damaged, shall be the Responsibility of the Contractor.
2. Gas Lines in Conflict within Project Limits to be Relocated by Utility Owner Prior to
Construction Unless Shown Otherwise. Coordinate with Local Utility Company to Verify Utility
Realignment /Relocation Work is Complete Prior to Start of Construction. Contact Frances Grimsley
of PSNC (919) 367 -2714 [OJTice] or (919) 819 -9932 [Cell]. A Mandatory Preconstruction Meeting
with PSNC shall be Required.
3. Temporarily Remove Minor Items as Required for Construction. Minor Items shall Include, but are
Not Limited to: Existing Signs, and Driveway Pipes. Reinstall Items to Their Original Condition at
a Location as Close to Original Location as Practicable.
4. The Contractor shall take Precautions Not to Disturb Existing Property Corner Markers. All Disturbed
Property Corner Markers shall be Replaced by a Registered Land Surveyor at Contractor's Expense.
5. Survey Data (i.e, Horizontal and Vertical Control) Based on State Plane and NAD 83 (2011),
NAVD 88 (Geoid 12).
6. Support Existing Poles, Fences, Culverts, Pavement, Utilities, Curbing and Other Structures
during Construction. Repair Damaged Items to Their Original Condition at No Additional Cost.
7. Remove and Replace Existing Curb & Gutter (Match Ex. Elevation and Location) for Installation
of New Handicap Ramp. Remove to Nearest Joint if within 5' of Full Height Curb;
otherwise Provide New Joint in Curb & Gutter.
& Sidewalk Transitions Shall Not Exceed 12:1 Slope per ADA.
9. Staging Area shall be Delineated with Tree Protection Fencing around Existing Trees and
Sediment Fence.
10. Maintain Access to Driveways at All Times during Construction. Driveway Impacts and Access
during Construction shall be Coordinated with the Owner.
11. Land Disturbance for Project is Less than 1 (One) Acre. Erosion Control Plan Approval is
Not Required, however All Work shall Adhere to Erosion Control Requirements Identified on the
Plan. It is the Contractor's Responsibility to Comply with the Erosion Control Requirements,
Devices, Maintenance, etc. as Indicated on the Plans and as Further Defined in the NCDENR
Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual, Latest Edition.
12. One Week prior to Connections being made to Existing Structures and Pipes, a Coordination
Meeting shall be Held between the Contractor, Engineer, and Owner to discuss the Construction
Plan Submitted by the Contractor.
13. All Unsuitable or Excess Soils shall be Removed from the Site and Properly Disposed of at an Approved
or Permitted Facility.

ESTABLISHED BY ELEVATION OF EXISTING EDGE

EROSION CONTROL SEQUENCE
1. In addition to the requirements of this plan and outlined in
the project specifications, the Contractor shall adhere to the
latest NCDENR Sedimentation and Erosion Control Manual
for guidance on construction of measures required by this plan.
Contractor shall also adhere to the Self Inspection and
Self Reporting and NPDES as required under the
Sedimentation Pollution Control Act and NPDES Stormwater
Permit for Construction Activities, NCG 010000. See Plan sheet.
2. Install Erosion Control Devices as Indicated on the Drawings. Clear
only the areas necessary for installation of erosion control measures.
3. Prior to Clearing, Grubbing and Grading, Contact the Resident
Engineer to request Inspection of All Installed Measures.
4. After Engineer has Conducted Inspection and provided
Authorization to Proceed, Clear, Grub, and Grade the Site.
5. Maintain Erosion Control Devices as necessary during Construction
Activities, Inspect Devices after every Rainfall Event and Cleanout
Sediment Fence Outlets and/or Check Dams when Half Full.
6. As Construction Progresses Install Additional Erosion Control
Devices as Indicated on the Drawings, Called for in Specifications,
or as Directed by Engineer.
7. Comply with Ground Stabilization Requirements as required per
the Plan.
8. Establish a Permanent Groundcover for all Disturbed Areas within
14 Days following Completion of Grading.
9. After Site is Stabilized, Request an Inspection by the Engineer.
Upon Approval Offsite Stabilization, Remove All Temporary
Erosion Control Devices, Dress -Out Area and Seed and
Mulch. Install Permanent Erosion Control Measures and
Request Inspection by Engineer.

The major change in the Permit from the prevou s one is the shorter
times to apply ground stabilization such as mulch, wheat straw, or
grasses. The NC laws and rules relating to the Sediment Act require,
in most places, ground stabifization within 21 days. Based on the new
EPA requirements and 9-mmths' work with a permit advisory group,
CTAG, the Division and EPA-developed permit, now caraains
requirements for ground cover within 14, and in some places, 7 days.

• No paint or liquid wastes in stream or storm drains
• Dedicated areas for demolition, construction and other
wastes must be located 50' from storm drains and streams
unless no reasonable alternatives available.
• Earthen - material stockpiles anus be located 50' from storm

surface waters, wetlands. or buffers.

1. Compaction and soils symbols - i.e. "98% Category I" refers to Category I soil
materials with minimum standard Proctor compaction of 98 %. See Table 1 for
equivalent modified Proctor values.
2. The trench top elevation shall be no lower than 0.1 H below finished grade or,
for roadways, its top shall be no lower than an elevation of 0.3 m (1') below
the bottom of the pavement base material.
3. Sail in bedding and haunch zones shall be compacted to at least the some
compaction as specified for the majority of soil in the backfill zone.
4. The trench width shall be wider than shown if required for adequate space to
attain the specified compaction in the haunch and bedding zone.
5. For trench walls that are within 10 degrees of vertical, the compaction or firmness
