SUMMARY OF CULTURAL RESOURCES REVIEW Brief description of review activities, results of review, and conclusions: HPOWeb reviewed on 18 July 2012 and yielded no NR, SL, LD, DE, or SS properties in the Area of Potential Effects (APE). Caswell County current GIS mapping, aerial photography, and tax information indicated predominantly woodland and fields in the APE (viewed 18 July 2012). Parcels intersected by the APE contain twentieth-century resources standing approximately 880 feet and more NW of the existing bridge. Constructed in 1922, Bridge No. 106 is an 81-foot-long, three- span, reinforced concrete, tee-beam bridge and is not eligible for the National Register according to the NCDOT Historic Bridge Survey as it is not historically, architecturally, or technologically significant. Google Maps'Street View" confirmed absence of critical historic structures/landscapes in APE (viewed 18 July 2012). No architectural survey is required for the project as currently defined. Brief Explanation of why the available information provides a reliable basis for reasonably predicting that there are no unidentifred historic properties in the APE: APE extends 300 feet to either end of the existing bridge (NW-SE) and 100 feet to either side of the SR 1156 (West Main Street) centerline (SW- NE) to encompass proposed construction activities. The county architectural survey and related publication include no properties in the APE (Rutn itte-stokes, AnlnventoryofHistoricArchitecture-CaswellCounty, North Carolina, Yanceyville: Caswell County Historical Association, 1991). County GIS/tax materials and other visuals support absence of significant architectural resources. No National Register-listed or -eligible properties or other properties of concern are located within the APE, including the Federal permit area. Should any design elements, including detour improvements, of the project change, please notify NCDOT Historic Architecture as additional review may be necessary.
