This letter is in response to the Notice of Violation and Recommendation for Enforcement Letter
dated August 10, 2020 received by the City of Greensboro. The address where the violation
occurred and the amount spilled is shown below:

The sanitary sewer release at 1109 Sunset Drive was due to severe natural conditions at this
address. During this event, the region experienced two inches of rain in four hours, with very
intense rainfall centered over this address, resulting in the sanitary sewer system becoming
overwhelmed. Once notified of the sanitary sewer spill, we dispatched a crew to monitor the
manhole and record the amount of sewage that spilled from the collections system. This severe
natural condition event is uncommon and is the sole reason for the sso discharge. Our
investigation determined no issues were present in the collection system. We will monitor this
location and determine if flow level detection units need to be deployed to prevent future sso
releases.
The whole 12000-gallon amount did reach surface waters and is a mistake in BIMS that can be
corrected to reflect this statement.
It is our duty to comply with the requirements of Collection System Permit Number WQCS00006
and G.S S. 143-215. 1 (a)(1), and we will continue to address unforeseen circumstances as quickly
